Haddenham Classics' monthly meets

We started our monthly meets in 2021 and they have gone from strength to strength, attracting a wide selection of classic vehicles each time - everything from bikes to buses!

We meet at Bradmoor Farm, Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, HP17 8JX, where there is lots of space to park on hardstanding.

Our meets are held on the last Saturday of each month, from 9 am till 12 noon. Breakfast is available at the Bradmoor Farm cafe.

We meet rain or shine. At our best meet yet we welcomed 200 cars and their owners. If you don't own a classic car, no problem. You are welcome to come and enjoy the many wonderful vehicles on display. Free entry to all.

We encourage people to take pictures at our meets and many of these can be seen in the Gallery.

We welcome all genders and ages, and provide a space where those passionate about classic vehicles can socialise and make new friends.

See you at our next meet!

Behind the scenes: stewarding at Haddenham Classics

If you’ve ever attended a Haddenham Classics event, you might have noticed the friendly people in hi-vis vests keeping everything running smoothly. These are our stewards – the unsung heroes who make sure every event is safe, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone. We sat down with a member of our stewarding team to find out what it’s real

If you’ve ever attended a Haddenham Classics event, you might have noticed the friendly people in hi-vis vests keeping everything running smoothly. These are our stewards – the unsung heroes who make sure every event is safe, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone. We sat down with a member of our stewarding team to find out what it’s really like and why we need more volunteers.

What do stewards do?

Stewards play a vital role at Haddenham Classics events. They help keep the public safe, manage traffic flow, park cars, provide information, handle issues or emergencies, and greet visitors on arrival and wave them off at departure. With usually over 150 cars, and more and more attendees coming to each event, stewards ensure that everyone can enjoy the day without incident.

Why stewards are essential

“Safety is our top priority,” our steward explains. “Controlling traffic flow and keeping an eye on things ensures that no one gets hurt and everyone has a great time.”

Current team and ideal numbers

At present, the stewarding ‘crew’ consists of 11 volunteers. While this is enough to run events, it leaves little room for sickness, holidays, or relief breaks. A monthly meet requires a minimum of five stewards, meaning long shifts without a break. Ideally, we’d like a pool of 25 volunteers so we can have 10 available per event, allowing shorter shifts and more time to enjoy the cars and the show.

Training and preparation

Prior experience is helpful but not essential. New stewards are paired with a current crew member and guided through our comprehensive instruction booklet. Hi-vis vests and equipment are provided, and the team is friendly and supportive. Stewarding is rewarding and a great way to give back to the community.

A typical shift

Currently, a shift starts at 8.30 am with setup and briefing, and finishes around 12 pm with takedown. With more stewards, shifts could be reduced to an hour or less, giving volunteers more time to enjoy the event itself.

Why we love it

“Organising and seeing people enjoying themselves is the best part,” our steward shares. “The positive feedback we get, and being part of a successful event is really satisfying.”

Challenges

Busy events, particularly those with 200 cars, can be tiring, and require focus for long periods. Limited crew numbers mean there’s often little time to relax or chat with attendees, underscoring the need for more volunteers.

Benefits of volunteering

Being a steward gives you free Haddenham Classics membership, access to exclusive events, and the opportunity to contribute to the community. Volunteers may also help plan events, write website content, or raise funds for our chosen charity, Heartbeat Haddenham.

 Who makes a good steward?

Friendly, organised individuals with common sense and the ability to communicate confidently with the public are ideal. Above all, enthusiasm and availability are key.

Looking ahead

As the club grows, we aim to professionalise further, offering more training and development opportunities for our crew. Stewarding at Haddenham Classics isn’t just about helping run an event, it’s about learning, growing, and being part of a passionate community.

Final words

“If you’re unsure, just come along and give it a try,” our steward encourages. “We’ll pair you with a senior member, and there’s no commitment. If you enjoy it and can spare some time, we’d love to have you aboard!”

Please get in touch if you are interested in helping out.

May 2024 meet

Another great monthly meet at Bradmoor Farm in Haddenham. The weather was kind to us again and we had over 140 vehicles. Lots of families at this event with children having fun spotting their favourite cars. Great to be able to sit outside and enjoy a breakfast bap and a coffee, while watching the cars come in.

We had a great turnout of over 150 vehicles and the sun shone!
